Lake Mead is the largest ‘man-made’ lake in the United States. At full capacity, the lake is 112 miles long and 532 feet deep at its greatest depth. It has 700 miles of shoreline – plenty long to anchor a boat and dive into the water for a refreshing swim. The lake is named after Elwood Mead who was the commissioner of the U.S. bureau of Reclamation from 1924-1936, during the planning and construction of the Boulder canyon Project that created Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.

Historical Fact: A Boeing B-29 Superfortress crashed into Lake Mead in 1948 while testing a prototype missile guidance system known as ‘Suntracker.’ This aircraft, along with two other smaller planes are still at the bottom of Lake Mead and offer a wealth of exploration opportunities to Scuba Divers.

So, what are you waiting for – Rent a boat, find a secluded cove and dive into the warm waters for some explorations of your own.
